Myriad Harbour

Day 11. Trying to dry clothes in the rain, but also feeling a bit like a cooped up jailbird in my own house.

Bad Dream Mama

Day 10. Currently reading. I know I'm probably way too late to the party on this one. For a story that seems to be going nowhere, I can't put the damn thing down.

Snappy Tom

Best time to start a 365 project is totally twelve days into the new year. First of January is for suckers. Organised suckers.

Day 1. Going with that healthy eating thing in the new year. I've totally got like four food groups covered there, so whatevs.

Now, to watch some new Girls.

After hours

Sunday morning barefoot beach exploring. Finally have a work-free weekend to do whatever I choose to do. So there's rock pools and popcorn and baking and tv marathons.

Blurred Lines

Rainbow Jellyfish. This is just a small painting that will be included in my installation for Reframed 13. I'm looking forward to sharing all the works later in the week!

Reframed 13

It's that time of year again! Reframed 13 will be opening this Friday at Bleeding Heart Gallery. I've been working crazy hours on an installation which I can't wait to share pictures of. I'm really really excited for this one. We went through the final layout last night and I must say, it's super impressive. I work with some amazingly talented people! If you're in Brisbane over the next couple of weeks, do yourself a favour and check it out!

Berlin so far

Well this picture sums up my experiences in Berlin so far. Ok, maybe not, but I do spend what feels like an annoying amount of time looking for a toilet, figuring out how the vending machine style toilet works, or just being angry that it costs me 50c to pee. This is a big deal when I'm drinking super cheap beer all day and I come from the land of free toilets for all.

Bodily functions aside, this place just continues to amaze. The history nerd in me can't get enough.. going to a different (usually super depressing) museum every day, while walking around talking in all the street art. I haven't even been to a proper gallery yet. The stuff on the outdoor walls is so brilliant that I'm worried I'll be disappointed when I get inside and see didactics and security guards.

I've been staring wistfully at everyone riding their bikes, thinking that I should buy or rent one. But then I remember that no matter how flat the city is, I have absolutely no sense of direction and would probably cause an accident due to me forgetting which side of the road to be on.

It's only taken me two weeks to realise that the only people buying tickets for public transport are tourists. But I'm still such a goodie goodie that I won't ride without one. Although I haven't validated my ticket a couple of times because I have been known as a bit of a rebel.

It's not a beautiful city, but it is fascinating, funny and inspiring. And so far people have been very understanding (and fairly amused) at my absolute piss poor German.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a beer the size of a small child with my name on it. Take care killers!

(P.S. For pictures not involving toilets I'm on instagram as @raptorsnelling)

Not an addict

Crazy, crazy, crazy. Ok, first things first, have you all gone to see Jurassic Park 3D? Because if you haven't, I don't know if we can be friends. I went with this kid last week to see it in gold class. Because the only way to watch Jeff Goldblum be all chaos theory flirting is in a recliner with a couple of beers. I'm not usually a fan of 3D. It seems a bit gimmicky, gives me a headache, and I have to Xzibit my glasses for a couple of hours. But this time it was exceptional. I promise I'm not even biassed one bit. Anyway, it was so good (and I was so excited to see that it was still playing even though it was only meant to be on for a week) that I just booked a ticket to go see it tomorrow morning. Nevermind that I have only two days off work to plan a billion and one things for my trip to Berlin. Oh yeah, I'm going to FREAKING BERLIN! IN EIGHT DAYS!   I still have to figure out how to get to England for a wedding, and plan when I'm going to visit the amazing Miss Laura. But instead I've been productively watching Game of Thrones. Now, if you'll excuse me, these pretzels aren't going to dip themselves in nutella.

"Roar" and such. Pictured: my Nedry glasses. Not pictured: my Jurassic Park shirt which was meant to be pictured.

Oh, and you should probably watch this. I was way off with the Jake Gyllenhaal thing.

Drift Away

As I was driving to work this morning in this disgusting wet weather (which is actually lovely wet weather if you're at home in bed with a book and a cup of tea) my coffee cup fell out of the cup holder and onto the floor. Luckily it was empty, so I just left it there, but it got me thinking about what I would do if it was full. And the answer was, I'd probably still leave it there and let it spill coffee everywhere. At least until I got to a red light, anyway. And I have Mitch Leery to thank for this.

I was lucky enough to be a teenager when Dawson's Creek was on (yep, I said lucky) and this scene has stayed with me forever. The creepy Joey head that Dawson makes in season one has also stayed with me, but that's other story. There was a time when I was a teenager, driving home late at night with a McDonald's chocolate sundae. When I turned a corner it fell out of the cup holder and onto the floor and just as I went to pick it up I thought to myself, "No, leave it. Think about how embarassing it would be to die in the same way as Dawson's dad".

So thanks Mitch. Thanks for teaching me that a spilled icecream is not worth dying for. And thanks for teaching me that if I have a child with a Jurassic Park poster in their room they won't be automatically cool. They actually turn out to be a whining little bitch with awful hair.

All the things that go to make heaven and earth

A few wonderful days in Perth. I watched two of my favourite people get married. Met their favourite people, who have now joined my own list of favourite people. Carried balloons around town. Didn't cry at all during the ceremony. Didn't get sunburnt despite the heat. Went to a tiki bar. Drank far too much rum. Bought more dinosaur jewellery. Ate lots of cheese. Fell asleep watching Jurassic Park. Drank delicious cider. Went in a fun house. Ate more cheese.

Now I'm back at home where I have to rejoin the land of work and study. And I've had to say goodbye to my brother who has moved away for work, and mum and dad who have resumed their travels after a month in Brisbane.

Bring on November.
