As I was driving to work this morning in this disgusting wet weather (which is actually lovely wet weather if you're at home in bed with a book and a cup of tea) my coffee cup fell out of the cup holder and onto the floor. Luckily it was empty, so I just left it there, but it got me thinking about what I would do if it was full. And the answer was, I'd probably still leave it there and let it spill coffee everywhere. At least until I got to a red light, anyway. And I have Mitch Leery to thank for this.
I was lucky enough to be a teenager when Dawson's Creek was on (yep, I said lucky) and this scene has stayed with me forever. The creepy Joey head that Dawson makes in season one has also stayed with me, but that's other story. There was a time when I was a teenager, driving home late at night with a McDonald's chocolate sundae. When I turned a corner it fell out of the cup holder and onto the floor and just as I went to pick it up I thought to myself, "No, leave it. Think about how embarassing it would be to die in the same way as Dawson's dad".
So thanks Mitch. Thanks for teaching me that a spilled icecream is not worth dying for. And thanks for teaching me that if I have a child with a Jurassic Park poster in their room they won't be automatically cool. They actually turn out to be a whining little bitch with awful hair.
